Japanese Kimonos come in different styles and some include many different items to make up the full traditional kimono dress, these parts are called:

  • Yuki - Sleeve Length
  • Ushiromigoro - Rear main section
  • Uraeri - Inner Collar
  • Doura - Upper lining
  • Sodetsuke - Armhole seam
  • Fuki - Hem guard
  • Sode - Sleeve
  • Okumi - Front panel below the collar
  • Miyatsukuchi - Opening below armhole
  • Sodeguchi - Sleeve opening
  • Tamoto - Sleeve pouch
  • Maemigoro - Front main section
  • Furi - Sleeve below armhole
  • Tomoeri - Overcollar
  • Eri - Collar
  • Susomawashi - Lower lining
  • The word Kimono means "clothing", kimonos are often worn with traditional Obi, these are a decorative belt which are tied in a series of knots, the older style of Obi were very plain and simple, the modern obi's are very expensive but are stunning in design.

    Kimonos are worn on many occasions, one of them is a wedding, these are known as Uchikake, these are worn over the top of the kimono, they have a thick padded roll near the hem, this is because they drag on the ground.
